Schema markup is a block of JSON-LD in a page that names what the page is: the business, the product, the article or the questions it answers. Search engines use it to show rich results. AI assistants use it to tie a name to a site, so they know which company a page belongs to.
This validator reads that block and checks it. It finds blocks that cannot be read, required fields that are missing, and values in the wrong form, such as a date written another way or a link that is not a full address.
Which types matter for a business site?
A business home page needs an Organization node, or a Local business node for a shop or an office, and a WebSite node for the site itself. Product pages use Product and articles use Article. The Organization should carry a name, a website, a logo and a list of official profiles, so AI can tie those profiles to your business. The schema markup generator writes each type for you.
What is the difference between JSON-LD and microdata?
JSON-LD is one script block that sits apart from the visible page, and it is the format this validator reads in full. Microdata and RDFa put the markup into the tags of the page. The validator reports when a page uses them, but it does not check their fields yet.
What are the common errors?
The errors that come up most often are a JSON block with a missing comma or quote, two Organization nodes from two plugins, an FAQ answer that is not on the visible page, and a date that is not in the year, month and day format. Fix the errors first, then check the page again. Once the markup is clean, the free check shows whether AI names you for your category.
Questions
Does schema help ChatGPT?
Not on its own. Schema markup tells AI assistants which business a page describes, what it offers and who wrote it, so they can tie your name to your site. Being named still depends on what other sites say about you.
Is FAQ schema still worth it?
Only where the questions and answers are also on the page. The markup follows schema.org, which other search engines and AI assistants can read, so it still describes the page to them.
Where do I paste the code?
Paste the script inside the head of the page it describes, or anywhere in its HTML. Search engines and AI assistants read it from there. The schema markup generator builds the script for you.
Why does the test say my markup is missing when I can see it?
Usually because JavaScript adds the markup after the page loads. This validator reads the HTML the server sends, and most AI crawlers read it the same way, without running JavaScript. Put the script in the server HTML or the template, so it is there before any script runs.
